Festool stuff is crazy expensive. So much so that it's out of reach for nearly everyone. That's a crying shame.
I have this sander, the larger dx something or other, and the Festool hepa vac that goes with them. I can sand all day and never get a bit of dust on me, the bench, or in my lungs.
I have some other Festool tools as well, and all are over the top.
The only way I can justify the extreme cost of these tools; saving my lungs. They last forever, but if they're not plugged into the hepa vac, it's hard to make sense of the purchase.
This sander is clunky, heavy, and a bit awkward with the vac hose plugged in. So is my other sander with the larger pad. The sandpaper is expensive, but it lasts long enough that its a value. It all comes back to comfort.
No sawdust in my shop, lungs, eyes, or on my clothes. The tools make sanding almost a joy. Well, not a joy. Bearable.
If you invest in a large Festool vac, then add tools around it, you will be ruined for life. That's your warning. The value of the tools is never in question, they're the best of the best.
If you don't do a good amount of shop work, and are not a regular woodworker, this stuff isn't for you. The cost makes it senseless. If you're in the shop all day, or every hour available to you, you deserve the best. You also deserve to live a long, healthy life. Grab a Festool catalog and form a plan as to how you can gather those tools piece by piece. In time you'll be surrounded by tools that save time, health, and money.
