JET 708457K JJ-6CSX 6-Inch 1-HP Jointer, 115/230-Volt 1-Phase Review

I was fortunate enough this year to be able to upgrade several pieces of equipment in my shop. After spending a considerable amount of time studying reviews and looking at Jet, Delta and Powermatic equipment, I decided to go with JET because of the fit and finish, the features and overall value. I think that Jet has come a long way in the past 10 years to improve quality to a level as good as and in many cases better than their competition.This jointer replaced a very old Delta which had handwheels located under the tables. I liked the Jet because the handwheels are located in front of the tables. Some people find that adjustment levers work best for them, but I have always prefered handwheels because its easier for me to make small adjustments. The unit arrived in excellent condition. There were no scratches, dents or missing parts -great job Jet! It was packaged in two boxes with the contents of each identified on the outside of the boxes. By the way, the instruction manual is located in the (larger) box that contains the jointer table and various other parts. The smaller box contains the base, and the base door. Everything is tightly packed in styro containers and wrapped in plastic bags. Jet even packs a small can of paint, two wrenches and an allen wrench to adjust the cutters (however, mine were set perfectly at the factory). The instruction manual is well written and has good picture references.I put the unit on a shopmade mobile base that I made and had used sucessfully with the Delta jointer. I like it because it lifts the unit up about 2" and does not slip when you apply pressure or work with heavy wood. (I found the plans in a "Shop Notes" magazine a couple of years ago).The unit went together with no hitches. The fit and finish is great. Everything lined up perfectly. The back fence was set correctly at the factory to stop at 90 & 45 degrees, so no correction was needed. I installed the belt, dust chute and belt guard and went through the steps to set up the infeed and outfeed tables. The outfeed table also was already adjusted correctly and this saved a lot of time. After that I ran several soft and hardwood boards through and was very pleased with the results. The units 1 HP TEFC motor ran remarkably quiet and the cuts were very smooth. The dust collection chute also worked fine with my shop system.I would highly recommend this unit if you are in the market for a good, easy to set up and operate 6" jointer. Happy woodworking! SoundGear Industrial Hearing Protection Review

I cannot say enough good things about the Hearing Aid Battery Club who sells SoundGear items on amazon.com. My husband's audiologist had heard of this protection and suggested we look into it. For your infomation there are three different types of SoundGear Hearing protection; for shooters and hunters, tactical, and industrial. We were interested only in the industrial as my husband works at a facility that requires ear plugs at specific decibel coverage levels. This is the one that fits that bill. However, it was not available on amazon. When we saw that Hearing Aid Battery Club sold the one for shooters and hunters I contacted them through amazon.com and asked if they could make available the industrial. They notified me they would soon have them listed on Amazon.com at the same price which is substantially lower than purchasing from the manufacturer.

We ordered and received them very quickly. We were impressed by the quality of workmanship, the packaging, and all the extras that come with them. Unfortunately, they did not work for my husband. They blocked so much noise that he could not hear himself being called over the PA system.

I contacted Hearing Aid Battery Club and told them of my husband's experience. They quickly offered a FULL refund which was processed the day after they were shipped back to them.

While these did not work for my husband that is not a reflection on their quality and we think was just his particular circumstance.

I would heartily recommend the Hearing Aid Battery club for their superior customer service.

Mighty Mule RB509 Low Voltage Wire, 1000-Foot Roll Review

I would have given a five; but I don't use "I love it" for something such as this. I am completely satisfied with it and am using it for the Mighty Mule gate opener and operating the gate from more than five hundred feet away so I ordered two rolls. One wire goes to the 12v battery and the other to the sensor that allows opening/closing from the house.
Another spliced wire is in place for the purpose of placing a signal at the house so I can determine from there whether or not the gate is open. If anyone has ideas on this, please share and it will save me a lot of research.

Noritz NRC1111-DVNG Residential Condensing Tankless Water Heater, Natural Gas Review

This is a great unit. It provides key attributes of high flow rate and low pressure drop while providing lots of hot water. This is the largest unit Noritz make. If you size just by GPM you may think their next smaller unit is adequate for your needs. Maybe it is, I don't know what your requirements are. But only this beast has the large heat exchanger, which allows high flow without dropping 15 - 20 psi across the exchanger when you are drawing lots of hot water. A tub spout, for example.

The unit is very efficient, 94% I believe. It is a condensing design that vents with 3" or 4" PVC and uses fan-assisted combustion. The burner modulates over a wide dynamic range, allowing small flows of water to still cause the heater to light off.

It is my understanding this is one of the few cases where there is not a downside to installing a larger unit. Only the amount of gas required is used to heat the water. The larger heat exchanger causes minimal, if any, efficiency penalty.

You will want to ensure a 200,000 BTU gas supply pipe, which is not likely what your tank heater came with. Also large water pipes (it helps to run 1" pipes up to the 3/4" water heater fitting) will improve this unit's capability.
