US Stove 2007B Plate Steel King Pedestal with Ash Pan Heater Review

Folks, I'll admit we didn't purchase this stove from Amazon. We bought it from a company that sells related products here.

That said, we've been using this stove in our home. I'd like to offer a review.

First of all, this is a freight delivery and weighs in at over 200#. If you're having it delivered to a residence or location that has no loading dock or fork truck, get lift gate delivery if you can. Rassling this thing to the ground from the back of a tractor trailer can be challenging to say the least.

Secondly, this stove is made in China. But don't let that deter you from consideration. It's actually a good, solid product, all welded steel plate lined with fire brick. As advertised, it comes with an ash pan and electric blower. Wood burners with these features are not common in this price range.

The ash pan is a nice feature. You won't need a stove shovel. Simply lift the little cover plate at the center of the firebox and sweep the ashes down into the pan. Replace the plate and you're all set. The ash pan may be dumped later when full.

The blower has a rotary speed control/power switch. It comes fully assembled with a six-foot AC power cord, standard three-prong grounded plug (120 volts) and mounts on the rear heat shield panel. You'll need a pair of wire cutters or tin snips to remove the panel section where the blower goes. The rear panel is perforated for removal of the blower installation opening.

Also, the smoke pipe adapter/damper must be bolted on. You'll need a wrench for that. The door handle heat guard (spring) must be screwed on as well. Ash pan drawer, blower and damper assembly are boxed and shipped inside the stove along with a kit bag of hardware.

Comes completely assembled otherwise with the fire brick in place.

Here's our installation scenario ~ dual wall 6" smoke pipe and manufactured DuraVent chimney with a through-the-wall thimble kit. That's two 90 bends. It vents well. Open the damper when starting your fire and moderate damping once the fire is established.

As for smoke spill, you may experience this upon opening the door when you have a fire burning. It is due, I believe to the inherent design of a flat-top stove that vents from the top. When the door is opened, the flue draft is interrupted and you may experience some smoke spill. Once a draft is established, smoke spill isn't as much of an issue.

An especially nice feature is the "window wash" combustion air intake design. Intake air is supplied through a row of slats above the door and directed down toward the door glass. The glass stays clean longer.

Edit 16 March 13:

It appears the retail cost of this heater has nearly doubled since we got ours.

A previous review mentions replacement of the baffle plate and I'd like to comment on this issue. I had to replace the baffle plate recently; it was warped and nearly burned through in places. The mild steel replacement baffle (if you can find one available) won't last any longer than the original. I did some online searching and found a stainless steel replacement baffle for this stove. It costs quite a bit more than the original but was worth it. The SS baffle will last a long time.
