Titan 440 IMPACT Skid Style Airless Paint Sprayer 805-015 Review

I'm a professional painter with over 15 years experience. I've used a number of different units including Graco, Spraytech, Titan and Wagner. I've been using a 440i skid and a 440XT high boy for the past 2 years, but recently purchased the new 440 Impact and I have to say I'm blown away. This unit is a huge step up from the 440i and 440XT. First off, the suction filter has been reduced in size so that it can fit into a 5 gallon bucket fill opening. If you don't need to box your paint, this is a huge time saver. Second, the oiler is a big plus, oiling these units should be done after about every 10 gallons, but it's something that gets forgotten about. With the auto oiler button, there's no reason not to do it, it's that easy. The main filter has been beefed up and it's easy to clean. Also, the suction holster is much taller, which is a big plus when moving the unit. The pump has a ball button that allows you to free the lower ball if it becomes stuck. This is somehting that has happened with the 440i while using heavy primers, and I had to use a hammer to losen that ball. The ball button solves this problem.

As far as power, I can definately tell the difference. Compared to the older 440i, This unit maxes out at 3300psi/.54GPM vs 3000psi/.47GPM for the 440i. The difference may not seem like a lot, but it is when you're wanting to run a continuous spray pattern, or if you want to run more than 50' of hose. With the higher pressure and power of this unit, I can now go all the way up to a .023 tip if I need to. The power is there if you need it. The pump also runs a lot quieter than the 440i, and it sounds a lot smoother. Before the 440 Impact, nearly all Titans had the same sound, and I could tell when someone nearby was running one. The Impact is definately different, and I noticed the pump rebuild kit has a new part number, unlike the XC/HP/i pumps which all used the same packing kit. This is a new pump all together.

Compared to the Graco 390, this unit has more power. It's heavier that the comparable Graco and the older 440i, but I think Titan did a good job with balancing the weight of the heavier motor with use of more plastic parts in the housing. Overall, this is a great little unit. If you're thinking about a Graco 390/Nova/ST, I do believe the 440 Impact will outperform any of those units.

Now the cons: My only complaint is the location of the pressure control knob and lights, they put them on the side of the unit. I really miss the knob on top, but I use a pressure guage so the pressure issue isn't a problem. I just wish they beveled the control panel a little bit for better viewing of the lights and knob. The front face plate has a slight rough finish, which makes it hard to keep clean. I spray my units down with WD40 prior to each use for easier cleanup, but even with the WD40 on there, the face plate is hard to keep clean.
